Michigan Recruiting 2014

Every year it seems Michigan has a recruit that could commit to the Wolverines any minute but waits.   These type of players like the recruiting process and are willing to risk a spot on the Wolverines for continuing their recruiting process.  In the past couple of years we have seen wide receivers and others do it.

There is nothing wrong with that strategy and each recruit is allowed to make their own decision on which school they would like to attend.  The issue is, each school has a limited number of scholarship and this year Michigan only has 16 spots.   Which leaves 5 open right now for the 2014 class.

Sam Webb a Michigan recruiting insider went on the radio yesterday and listed his best guess on how he thought Michigan would finish the class.  He listed the following players:

Da'Shawn Hand
Artaivs Scott
Malik McDowell
Jamarco Jones
Adoree Jackson

My first reaction to the list was WOW! That is probably the best case scenario for the final 5 spots.  I also think Jones is going to pick OSU in July.   We all know the situation with Da'Shawn but I think we have lots of ground to make up with Adoree.

The one recruit that is not on this list and who many have predicted to be in this class is DB Parrker Westphal.   He might be this years candidate for "waiting too long" to commit.   Parrker is a 4 star CB who has visited Michigan a number of times.  He has always said that Michigan set his standard for a college visit and every other program would try to hit that bar.   Even his high school position coach is former Michigan DB Todd Howard.   So what's the problem?

The problem is Parrker has been giving quotes like this for up to a year.  Many thought he would be one of the first players committed to this class.   He never pulled the trigger and now with only 5 spots left, he better make a quick decision.   My feeling is the Michigan coaches get a bit frustrated  with situations like Parrker's.  They understand about a recruit feeling comfortable but they also can't hold a spot until signing day either.

But overall I believe with class we have now its important to understand that Peppers is a freak of nature and will be great to see in the defensive mind set that coach Mattson has.
